A commonly misquoted and misapplied verse of scripture is John 8:32b: "the truth shall make you free". Or they say "the truth shall set you free".
It would be nice if people had a little more respect for God's Word than to take it out of context in order to give credence to their philosophy or theology.
A little more apropos might be the following:
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
The entire 8th chapter of John is quite edifying. Enjoy!
